Orquestra Ouro Preto pays tribute to jazz legend<\/strong><\/h3>\n <\/p>\n
The next concert to be presented by Orquestra Ouro Preto will showcase a refined and exquisite blend of piano and jazz trumpets with the chords of violins and cellos. The repertoire chosen is the impeccable and borderless music of one of the biggest names in the genre, the pianist and multi-artist Duke Ellington (1879-1974). In an unprecedented live event, the concert promises to offer a unique experience that will transport the audience to the intimate atmosphere, typical of the jazz golden age in the United States. The concert will be broadcast live, free of charge, on Saturday, June 19, at 6:30 PM (CDT) \/ 7:30 PM (EDT), on the orchestra’s YouTube channel.<\/strong><\/p>\nFamous for his enormous contribution to jazz and American music, Duke created the combination of jazz, blues and the sound of the great swing orchestras, becoming one of the most influential musicians of his time. Alongside the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the musician played the so-called jungle style, with minimalist arrangements and the strong presence of the trumpet. In Brazil, Duke is revered as one of the great influences of musical movements such as Bossa Nova and Brazilian Jazz.<\/p>\n
At the concert, the audience will enjoy hits such as Take the \u2018A\u2019 train, In a sentimental mood, and Sophisticated Lady<\/em>, and others that have also been performed by great jazz interpreters such as Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald. Maestro Rodrigo Toffolo points out that it will be the first time that the orchestra will work on this repertoire. \u201cThe concert will be an invitation for the public to travel with us to the jazz world and discover the music excellence of Duke Ellington, a giant artist, a reference for his unique creativity. This time, we want to show how a Brazilian orchestra celebrates this great figure who is so important in the music realm worldwide. Don’t expect anything too conventional.\u201d<\/p>\nArranged by Maur\u00edcio de Souza, the presentation brings the renowned Brazilian pianist Cristian Budu as a special guest, and partner of the Orchestra in other concerts, having recently recorded the group’s 12th album.<\/p>\n
Sponsored by Instituto Cultural Vale, through the Federal Government’s Federal Law for the Incentive of Culture, the concert will follow all health and safety protocols for the orchestra\u2019s team and musicians. Due to the restrictions of the pandemic, there will be no public presence.<\/p>\n

\nThe Duke<\/strong><\/h3>\nWith over 200 albums, the New York artist, whose life history is intertwined with the jazz history, Duke is perhaps the most important jazz player to have lived. In addition to being a composer, pianist and multi-instrumentalist, Duke Ellington was also a maestro, as he led an orchestra that accompanied him in his performances, the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Together, they were immensely successful between 1920 and 1960, influencing a generation of musicians who played and explored the genre at that time, until today.<\/p>\n

\nOrquestra Ouro Preto<\/strong><\/h3>\nOne of the most prestigious orchestras in Brazil, Orquestra Ouro Preto has 21 years of activities and reaffirms itself as an avant-garde orchestra. Under the direction and artistic direction of Maestro Rodrigo Toffolo, the group is dedicated to the formation of different audiences, with an extensive program in the main concert halls and various spaces in Brazil and around the world. Under the signs of excellence and versatility, it also operates in social and educational projects that go far beyond music, such as the Support Group for Bands and the Ouro Preto Orchestra. Nationally awarded, the group has 11 performances recorded on CDs, and 7 DVDs.
